I once worked with a high school student who had been diagnosed with autism. He had significant sensory needs, which often caused him to make noises or flap his arms in social situations.
A prime example was lunchtime. Although he loved to be surrounded by his friends, who were all very understanding, he still created quite a distraction. This student of mine, tried our very first hat.
